Astrology - Understanding Birth Charts

Let me start by asking you a question.

What is a horoscope?

If you say 'two or three lines of nonsense that I very occasionally look at in the morning paper', you win brownie points for understanding the 'nonsense' angle, but you're way off the mark otherwise.

In fact, a horoscope is a detailed map of the sky as it would have looked at the very moment of your birth. Moreover, because the position of all of the heavenly bodies including the stars, planets, the Sun and Moon would be totally different depending upon where you were born, your exact geographical location also has a profound effect on your personal horoscope.

Whilst it is not therefore strictly true to suggest that every individual human being has a different horoscope (there will often be several babies born in the same hospital within moments of each other in the world's busiest cities), your horoscope or birth chart is certainly one that is matched by very few others.

According to Western astrology - which is the particular type of astrology that we are dealing with here - all of the planets and other heavenly bodies have certain characteristics. It is the belief of astrologers that people born when a particular planet is dominant will show characteristics related to that plan.

For example, Western astrologers believe that the Sun represents a father figure, whilst the Moon is the mother. A dominant Moon is therefore associated with security and home, so a child born under it will often be a home bird as an example.

In essence, as I have been learning from reading a new e-book called 'Astrology and birth charts', your horoscope or birth chart enables a gifted astrologer to analyze where your life is going and what is likely to happen to you during the course of it.

Because all the planets, stars and other celestial bodies on your birth chart are at certain angles to one another at the time and place of your birth, he or she can interpret these relationships between the planets to give you a very clear indication of what is likely to happen from the date of birth to that of death.

One of the main achievements of this book is that not only does everything in it make eminent good sense, it is also very clear and easy to understand even for a layman.

I have no doubt that 'Astrology and birth charts' is a book that anyone with even a vague interest in astrology and how it relates to their life could pick up and understand at first reading, even if they had no previous experience or understanding of the relationship between astrology and birth charts.

I don't know if you are familiar with the phrase that suggests that 'it takes all sorts to make a world', but even if not, I think we can all agree that people are very different.

For example, some people are big believers that everything happens in life completely by chance, whereas others are equally convinced that everything in life is totally preordained, that in effect fate has already dealt your hand and there's nothing you can do to change it.

In fact, to take it one stage further, the exact position of the planets, stars, the Sun and the Moon at the moment of your birth is not only dictated by the time that you were born, but also by the place as well.

This makes logical sense when you think about it. As 'Astrology and birth charts' demonstrates, the position of the planets as viewed from Paris cannot be the same as the position of the planets when viewed from St. Petersburg or Sydney at exactly the same moment, hence there are two factors that dictate the position of every planet on your birth chart (or horoscope).

So, what does this mean in practical terms?

What it means for a skilled astrologer is that the relative positions of all of the planets and stars on your birth chart gives them an indication of what is likely to happen throughout the course of your life from birth to death. Sometimes this indication will be particularly strong depending upon the angles between various planets, whereas at other times, the 'signal' about what you can expect from life is likely to be considerably weaker, hence the likelihood of the event in question happening is lessened.

Moreover, it makes the whole thing seem entirely logical and common sense as well, so much so that even a genuine cynic would find it difficult to argue with the information put forward.
